Food for Thought

In 1915 the Hillsboro Coffee Club published a little cook book as a fundraiser.  The women of the club used the funds to operate a small house on NE 2nd Avenue that they called the Rest Room.  It was a place where women visiting Hillsboro for business or shopping could rest during the day with their children while they waited for their husbands.  The little house is long gone, but the cookbook survives.

At this annual meeting of the Hillsboro Historical Society, we will sample treats cooked from these 1915 recipes, enjoyed with coffee, of course, to recognize the Coffee Club members and their contribution to our community.

We’ll follow the desserts and social time with a one-hour conversation, “What is the purpose of the Hillsboro Historical Society?”  This discussion will be led by facilitator Jonathan Abramson of avenues2possibilites LLC, a consulting group for non-profit organizations.  Everyone is invited to participate as we envision a future for history in Hillsboro.

After the discussion we will hold elections for new Board members.  You must be a member of the Hillsboro Historical Society to serve on the Board or vote.
